Sadly, most of us know that we do not live in a perfect world. Some would say it’s not even close. Across the world there are people in need of help for the most basic things that many of us take for granted; food, water, shelter...even in this country there are several problems; for example, did you know that 34% of Scottish children are living in poverty? But thanks to those eager selfless people out there, who have the time and resources, there are many opportunities – ideal for young people to get involved! – to contribute to these causes, organisations like R U Doing Good, as well as charities aimed specifically at helping children in need.
As well as all of this there are organisations offering seasonal jobs that are ideal for young people to contribute to. That doesn’t necessarily mean you will be one of Santa’s Elves in Braehead shopping centre – but personally I don’t see what’s wrong with that anyway! There are organisations who run summer camps for children and teenagers so that’s a really fun idea, allowing you to contribute to something good (keeping kids out of trouble!).
OR why not travel up North to the beautiful Scottish Highlands around May time. There are some truly magical places up there, and if we live in Scotland its only right that we take a proper look at our own incredible country before jetting off to others! The highlands revenue depends largely on tourism. That is why May is a good time to start, because most people wait to the summer months before taking a trip up north. At this time there are plenty of seasonal jobs, including strawberry picking (how romantic and picturesque!) There are plenty of other opportunities in catering, receptionist roles and even salmon vaccinating - a little less romantic but essential and worthwhile experience none-the-less!
Every year all of these organisations look for individuals who are willing to give their time to lend a helping hand. It’s a great thing to do when you are young! Take these chances as a young person, before you find yourself with too many responsibilities!
With seasonal work it’s a part time salary but lots back. If you do go to the highlands, think of the marvellous surroundings that you’ll be working in – people travel the world to see Scotland at that time of year!
So if you are looking for part time work and great experience – it’s a wonderful addition to your CV -choose an industry you like and offer to help...It could turn into a full time job!
Often, people struggle with identifying what sort of career suits them best. That’s why as a young person, just trying things out can lead to you finding the perfect job for your personality. There are no long term commitments plus it gives you amazing experience and a quick buck or two!
SO...what you waiting for?
