Badminton is a sport that is easy to play, but hard to master. I’ve been playing Badminton for six years now; starting in school when I was 12 and now playing locally, it requires lots of hard work, but having fun and making friends (that you can Facebook to keep in touch with) makes it all the more worthwhile.
There is so many activities considered sports nowadays, varying from Cheerleading to Go Karting; even hobbies like Skateboarding and BMXing have became professional, extreme sports. Other sports which were once considered ‘boy’ sports e.g., Football is now offered to girls. You can find Girls Football provided in most local leisure facilities, so, for fun activities and clubs in your area, check out http://www.renfrewshireleisure.com/ and you never know, you could be the next David Beckham of the Badminton world!
If you are a keen sportsman you should love the sport you play, be determined, committed and of course, fit as a fiddle! You should know to set your target to achieve in all areas of your life. However, working to achieve these goals does not come easy and it is constant practice that will see you through and moving onto greater success. I didn’t start playing Badminton until I was a teen, but the younger you begin to play your chosen sport the better. Just look at the famous Scottish tennis player, Andy Murray! Murray began playing Tennis at the young age of three. By the time he was 12 he had won the famous Orange Bowl tournament in Miami and was the only person in the under-12 event to later turn pro!
Some people are naturally gifted in their chosen sport like the world ranking number one in Badminton, Lee Chong Wei. In Wei’s case it’s simply practice that will help him to meet his goals. However, it is always good to have a coach who will provide support, expertise and to will you on to reach your full potential. The Scottish Institute of sport provides just this and prepares Scotland’s best athletes to perform on the world stage. Check out http://www.sisport.com/sisport/CCC_FirstPage.jsp for more info. There is also sportscotland, the national agency for sport which also offers advice in these areas, see http://www.sportscotland.org.uk/ChannelNavigation/About+us/ for more details and remember…practice makes perfect!
