The geeks have taken over!

No, not the title of an amazingly bad horror film, YOZILA reader, but a description of the global economy....believe it or not.

In the modern digital age, when the thought of life without iPods, iPhones and Playstations is enough to send us into a cold sweat-computer programmers are kings.

Google is the world’s most popular website, with a mind-blowing revenue of over $23 billion last year alone! However it began life as a humble research project by Stanford University students Larry Page and Sergey Brin.

YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen simply wanted a way to share videos with their friends, now we all love watching the weird and wacky clips their site has to offer!

Then there’s eBay, started as a personal site by computer programmer Pierre Omidyar.

It all goes to show that big business can spring from unlikely sources. If you have some original ideas there’s no telling how far you can go.

Arguably there’s no better industry than computing to enter at the moment. There’s a lot of fun to be had, money to be made, and exciting career paths to follow. Here’s a few options for you, with links to relevant courses you might fancy checking out.

Or if you’d prefer an HNC.... http://www.glasgowmet.ac.uk/3d-computer-animation-hnc.aspx
