Design

If you think design could be the career for you, then you’ll certainly have plenty of options to choose from!  There are loads of courses out there, and you can specialise in areas such as:

• Interior Design
• Product Design
• Fashion Design
• Graphic Design

These are just some of the broad areas of design courses, but most colleges and universities allow students to select modules which are suited to your interests!  If you see yourself as the next John Amabile or Linda Barker, then Interior Design could be the course for you.  The Course at the Centre for Creative Industry at Caledonian University offers a BSc in Interior Design, where you will learn about Design Creativity and the science behind designing buildings.  Sounds like this could be for you?  Check out http://www.gcal.ac.uk/creates/programmes/index.html. 

Perhaps you walk past people in the street knowing you could dress them far better than they dress themselves?  Fashion Design could be the course for you!  Check out the GCAL link above to find out more about their fashion business course, perfect for those of you with an interest both in the business side of fashion and the design side – you could be the next Michelle Mone, designers of the future!  Glasgow Met College has a dedicated Art and Design Department, offering courses in 3D design, Interior Design and Ceramic Art to name but a few.  Check out http://www.glasgowmet.ac.uk/courses.aspx and click ‘Courses by Sector’ to find out more about the various design courses on offer at the Met. 

Maybe you see yourself designing useful new products, like the non-spill baby drinks cup!  Well, DARE reader, the University of the West of Scotland offers a great course in Design with Product Development, where you’ll learn to work with technology to design and manufacture new products! How awesome would that be, to see a product sitting on the shelves of shops around the country with your name on it!  Interested?  Check out http://www.paisley.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate.asp.  The Met also offers an NQ in Design and Manufacture, so no matter what your specific design interests are, there is a course somewhere tailor made to suit your interests!

The Glasgow School of Art might be for those of you with an interest in both Art and Design.  The School of Art offers courses in Design, Architecture, Fine Art and Digital Design to name but a few!  Check out www.gsa.ac.uk for more details, and to have a look at a website which is an interesting design concept in itself, which I’m sure those of you with an interest in design will appreciate much more than I do!
