Fashion

Fashion is everywhere we look.  On TV, in magazines and newspapers, on billboards and on the side of buses.  I love clothes (buying them!) but I’m not the greatest at knowing what goes with what, and would happily wander about wearing everything I like at once, whether or not it goes.  I need someone to tell me what to wear and how to wear it, and that is where you, the next generation of Vivienne Westwoods and John Gallianos, come in!  Those of you who are interested in the fashion industry will be responsible for the looks of the future and making sure I don’t walk the streets looking like a fool!

You can get into the fashion industry in many different roles.  These include

  • Designers – who come up with the concepts for outfits
  • Dressers – who outfit build and work with the outfits
  • Models – who wear the outfits
  • Photographers – who photograph the outfits – duh!
  • Fashion Journalism – such as Vogue magazine etc – Remember ‘The Devil wears Prada?

The Fashion Industry is a huge one, and can be (let’s be honest here) hugely competitive to get into.  That’s why it’s always great to have a head start and the many fashion courses which are available to you, YOZILA reader will definitely give you that!

Whether your interest is Fashion Business (see the Design link for more info - http://www.gcal.ac.uk/creates/programmes/index.html) or Fashion Design, there is a course out there for you.  There’s the London College of Fashion, which offers every possible design course under the sun (http://www.fashion.arts.ac.uk/courses/fashion_design.htm) However, I’m guessing, DARE reader, that you may not all want to travel so far to study.  If not, then Cardonald College could be the course for you.

The course in Fashion Design offers the opportunity to develop and produce fashion items, alongside developing the skills required to design clothes.  To find out more about this and the other fashion courses available, follow the link to http://www.cardonald.ac.uk/courses/partnerships/open_door_programme/fashion_design
